What You Need To Know If You're Into Venezuelan Food

Los Panas Deli is a Venezuelan restaurant that opened in January 2021, it is a family business owned by Pedro Aleman and his wife Carolina Hernandez-Aleman.

They began to plan an industrial kitchen in their home four years ago and requested all the permits from the government of Canada, but unfortunately it was not approved the first time, so they began to start a new process to do it in their backyard which did not work out as well.

The married couple had wanted to start their own family business even though it wasn’t being approved so they gave it another try, this time they were given the opportunity to do it at a farmer’s market in the new horizon. They talked to one of the vendors and signed a contract with them, after that, they applied for the booth and the service and after three months they finally got it and opened it in January.

“What we liked the most about the farmer’s market was the environment, it’s so nice and homely and the people there are well selected and have high quality, they are a team and each day we continue to grow and make it better,” Hernandez-Aleman said.

The idea of naming the restaurant “Los Panas Deli” is because they wanted to use a name where it can demonstrate how much of a team everyone who is part of the business is. The word “pana” in Venezuelan Spanish means “friend,” and the word “deli” stands for “delicatesa” which Hernandez-Aleman describes as a “common Latin word” and it is defined as the food that it is being served at events and parties, so that is how they came up with the name “Los Panas Deli.”

Aleman and Hernandez-Aleman also involve their children in the family business, their daughter Samantha Aleman designed the logo and does photography for the Instagram page as well as doing the deliveries, while their son Pedro Aleman Jr. helps in the kitchen making the orders.

“We are happy right now, of course, we are in the process of making money, at the beginning is the investment, you’ll lose money for probably a couple of years because you have to pay for the equipment, but so far we are happy,” Aleman quoted.

The local business is open on Saturdays and Sundays, from 10 a.m. till 4 p.m. It is located at Prairie Horizon Fresh Market.
